Baker Gully
The Baker Gully
sub-catchment is located in the upper north east corner of the Lower MVWR below the Mt Bold Reservoir surrounding the
townships of Kangarilla and Baker Gully.
It has a wide variety of land uses, including dairies(2%), plantation
forests (11%), native vegetation (8%) and vineyards (5%), with over 70% of the
area used for open grazing or pasture.
Pedler Creek
The Pedlar Creek
subcatchment is the largest in the Lower MVWR
at over 11,000Ha. It borders the Baker
Gully sub-catchment to the North east and runs in a strip across the MVWR from
the Willunga Escarpment to the coast between Seaford and Maslin Beach. It includes the townships of McLaren Vale,
McLaren Flat and Blewitt Springs.
Vineyards (38%) and open pasture (33%) make up a large proportion of the
landuse, with other significant landuses being urban (7%), field crops (6%) and
protected areas (6%).
Maslin
The Maslin
sub-catchment adjoins the Pedlar Creek sub-catchment to its north and runs in
roughly a north westerly direction just above the township
of Willunga across to the ocean near Maslin Beach. The major landuses are open pastures (39%)
and vineyards (31%), followed by field crops (8%), rural living (7%), orchards
(4%) and urban (4%).
Willunga
The Willunga
sub-catchment runs in a strip from just south of the township of Willunga
in a north westerly direction through to Aldinga on the coast. The two dominant landuses are open pasture
(34%) and vineyards (22%), followed by orchards (16%), field crops (10%), rural
living (9%) and urban (5%).
Aldinga South
Aldinga South is the southernmost sub-catchment of viticultural significance in the MVWR. It is located in the south west corner between the Willunga and Sellicks sub-catchments. Landuse is diverse, with the dominant landuse being open pasture (40%), followed by field crops (13%), orchards (11%), vineyards (11%), urban (10%), protected areas (8%) and rural living (6%).
