Changes to AWRI Dogbook - What do they mean for you?

Significant changes to the 2011/2012 'Dog Book' as of 26/7/2011.

1. New active constituents

Altacor

Altacor has been granted registration by the APVMA for control of Lightbrown Apple Moth and Grapevine Moth in grapes.

Altacor is a useful product for early season control of LBAM. It contains the active constituent chlorantraniliprole which is a group 28 insecticide.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than 80% Capfall.

ParaMite

ParaMite has been granted registration for control of Two-spotted Mite in grapes.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than 30 days before harvest.

This is not likely to be used by grape growers in southern South Australia as Two-spotted Mite is not a pest species in our regions.

Vivando

Vivando for control of Powdery Mildew in grapes.

Vivando is a CropCare product. It contains the active constituent metrafenone which is a group U8 fungicide.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than 80% capfall.

Vivando looks to be a useful product for early season powdery mildew control and compliments the other products that are available for early season control.

Revus

Revus has been granted registration by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for control of Downy Mildew in grapevines.

It contains the active constituent mandipropamid which is a Group 40 fungicide. It is a different group to other Downy Mildew protectant like Copper or Mancozeb.

Resistance management strategy: DO NOT apply more than 3 sprays of Revus per season.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than E-L growth stage 26 (cap-fall complete).

Revus
is considered to be an effective Downy Mildew protectant. Supplies are limited this season, but it looks a useful product going forward into the future.

2. New active combinations

Broadway

Broadway has been granted registration for control of a variety of weeds in vineyards. It contains the active constituent glyphosate (present as the isopropylamine salt) and carentrazone ethyl which are Group M and G herbicides respectively.

Broadway is a custom mix of Glyphosate and the spike Hammer/Spotlight.

3. Old active with new target

Filan

Filan has been granted registration by the APVMA for control of Powdery Mildew in grapevines. However it is not recommended to use as a Powdery Mildew product on its own.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than 5% capfall (E-L growth stage 19-20). Do not apply to any set berries.

PARAFFINIC OIL

BioPest has been granted registration for control of Powdery Mildew in grapevines.
BioPest is a mineral oil product.

Restriction on use for export grapes: Use no later than 80% capfall. This early WHP limits the usefulness of this product.

DUSTING SULFUR

Two dusting sulfur products are listed for Powdery Mildew control.
Restriction on use for domestic and export grapes: Use no later than 12 weeks before harvest.
